Make Your Own Sauerkraut - with Tyler Cullender of Feral Ferments 3.20.24

For our first workshop, we welcomed Tyler Cullender of Feral Ferments into the shop to teach us about fermentation. Having studied the Gut Microbiome at Cornell University, Tyler became particularly interested in the history and art of Fermentation.

He was kind enough to bring samples of his original lemon dill sauerkraut, as well as his Curtido (a Central American styled Kraut) and his beet ginger kraut for us to sample before breaking down the origins of sauerkraut. He even went through the how to’s of other sorts of ferments.

He then walked us through making our own batch by first demonstrating, and then answering our questions as we worked on massaging our own cabbage blends.

This was an overall enjoyable and informative event! We look forward to hosting him again during canning season.

Sourdough Workshop-with Ben of Sourdough Nashville on 4.27.24

Ben guided our workshop attendees through the details of starter care. He outlined common mistakes, and what to do instead, as he simultaneously baked two loves of bread in real time.

Students got to get their hands dirty by working the dough in various stages, including practicing the slap and fold method. There was plenty of time for everyone to ask questions during each stage of the sourdough making process.

Each attendee received a take home worksheet filled with notes taken from class, as well as some starter.
